Barcelona's modernist architecture, conceived and executed by architect Antonio Gaudí, has ensured Barcelona's place in the world, on the map, and in the future. This tour offers an insight view to the modernism as its best. Begin with a panoramic drive along one of Europe's best-known boulevards-the Passeig de Gràcia. Your guide will point out the best examples of modernism and you will stop for photos at Casa Batlló and Casa Mila-both encapsulating Gaudí's extraordinary style. Sagrada Familia (the Holy Family Church), under construction since 1888, will be the next stop on your itinerary. This temple was consecrated in 2010 as a basilica, by Pope Benedict XIV. It draws millions of visitors every year and is one of the most visited monuments in Spain. The impressive height of the ceilings, the play of light and color and its bio-forms make this quite unique on a world scale. Your guide will explain its meaning, significance and importance from the outside as well as from the inside. To finish off your Gaudí experience, head to the city center, passing various works of Gaudí en route, including La Pedrera. A brief walk along Barcelona's boutique boulevard will take you to Casa Batlló before you return to the ship.
