Ajaccio is a living museum dedicated to keeping the history and heritage of Napoleon alive. And one of the best ways to get to know the Emperor of the French is on foot, so get ready to set your sights and camera on his hometown. Designed for a small group of 25, you'll head to Ajaccio Cathedral, site of Napoleon's baptism in 1771. The 16th century Roman Catholic Cathedral commands your attention with elaborate chandeliers and white marble altar donated by Empress Josephine. Nearby sits The Musée National de la Maison Bonaparte, the house where Napoleon was born in 1769, showcasing artifacts, furniture, and personal belongings offering insight into his upbringing and rise to power. Art lovers will delight in the impressive collections inside the Fesch Museum. The building was commissioned by cardinal Fesch, Napoleon's maternal uncle, who donated over 1,000 works of art, including works by Botticelli and Titian.
