Welcome to Maunakea the world's tallest oceanic mountain. Maunakea is 13,804 feet tall and is Hawaii's tallest volcano. It's home to the most productive ground based telescopes in the world. More discoveries and Nobel prize winners are all made from these observatories. Viewing our beautiful island from the summit is a once in a lifetime adventure. See one of the most endangered plants in the world the Maunakea silversword (ahinahina). Learn about Maunakea and it's observatories. Rainbow Falls is a beautiful 80 ft tall waterfall along Hawaii's longest river, the Wailuku River. Rainbow Falls gets its name because if the sun is in the right position it casts a Rainbow through the mist of the waterfall. This beautiful waterfall lies within a mango Grove and it is truly a sight to see.
Special Notes:
Weather changes can occur quickly and the access road to the summit can close without warning, therefore we cannot guarantee access to the summit or favorable conditions. Please wear pants and comfortable shoes. We will provide parkas and gloves for you. The temperature can dip below freezing when at high elevation on the mountain. Guests should be able to walk on uneven or rocky terrain. Because of high altitude this tour is not advised for those with respiratory, circulatory or heart conditions, pregnancy or poor health.
