Enjoy a day that offers everything you look for while on vacation – shopping, sightseeing, and indulging in the local flavors. Take in the highlights of the island's north shore with a drive to the town of Makawao. Located on the mid-slopes of Maui's Haleakala volcano, this charming town once teemed with "paniolo," Hawaiian cowboys who tended cattle in Maui's upland fields. Today, it's home to a thriving arts community. During your visit, you'll see a gallery showcasing the island's most acclaimed collection of works by Hawaii artists including exquisite Ni'ihau shell jewelry. Following a relaxing, sit-down lunch you'll head to Ho'olawa Valley for a guided walk with a naturalist to an idyllic waterfall overlook and a sampling of native fruits and vegetables. Last stop of the day is the breathtaking Ho'okipa Beach lookout, whose scenic wonders include white sand dotted with black rocks, green turtles and craggy shoreline.
