Experience the thrill of fishing on the Inside Passage aboard a large heated cabin cruiser. After a short walk from the ship to sportfishing boat harbor, you'll receive a safety briefing, board your vessel ranging in size from 32 to 38 feet in length, then depart for the fishing grounds. Troll for salmon and test your sportfishing skills in the calm, protected waters of the Inside Passage for approximately 3 to 4 hours. Your expert fishing guide knows how to lure the salmon to your line and the deckhand will attend to your needs and serve snacks and beverages, fruit, cookies, pastries, chips, bottled water, sodas, cocoa, coffee and tea. Upon return to the dock, your Alaskan fishing guide will assist with taking photos of the days catch. Walk back to the ship with memories of a relaxing fishing trip in the "Salmon Capital of the World." Your catch can be processed locally and shipped to your home for an additional charge, or cooked on board for dinner - it's your choice.
Special Notes:
Minimum age is 8. Participants may not exceed 350 lbs. Deck or rubber-soled shoes must be worn on the boat. Boats will carry a maximum of 6 guests. Please remember you are purchasing the opportunity to catch fish, not a guarantee of doing so. The Alaska Department of Fish & Game has put in place a conservation measure in southeast Alaska waters to protect the king salmon species. Any king caught up until June 14 must be released. Fish runs are dependent on spawning seasons, so during May and late-September fish stock may be more limited. All safety equipment and fishing gear is provided.A fishing license is required by the State of Alaska and should be purchased in advance of your tour. Trolling with downriggers is the method of fishing used on this excursion. Generally, the fishing rods are placed in holders and lines are lowered to specific depths. Participants do not hold the rods until fish are hooked. When a salmon strikes the fisherman then removes the rod from the holder, sets the hook with a slight jerk and plays the fish. Usually, five to six fishermen are assigned per boat.
Your catch can be processed and shipped home for an additional charge as arranged by the tour operator. Because of its perishable nature and U.S. Customs regulations, your catch may not be sent outside of the United States in most cases. Due to federal regulations, your catch may not be stored onboard your cruise ship, but may be prepared for dinner onboard.
