A guided walking tour of ancient Ephesus reveals its major sights, including an exclusive tour of the newly excavated area, the Terrace Houses. A slow, downhill walk into the ruins gives you time to appreciate the historic significance of the area, once the trade center of the ancient world. Your guide will take you back in time and highlight such sights as the magnificent Trajan Fountain, the Odeon Theater, the beautiful Celsus Library and the dramatic Great Theater. On a hill across from Hadrian's Temple, you'll explore the Terrace Houses. These structures, with their tiled mosaics and ornate frescos, give us important information about family life during the Roman period. Returning to Kusadasi, you'll have time to browse the colorful markets where handmade goods and traditional foods are sold and enjoy a carpet-weaving demonstration.
Special Notes:
Ephesus requires walking long distances over uneven surfaces. Terrace Houses require walking up many steps. At the end of the tour, passengers have the option to remain in town to view a carpet demonstration or to shop in the bazaar; return to the ship would be on your own (10 to 15 minutes walking).
