This fascinating half day tour will appeal to passengers who have a passion for history, and it starts with a drive to the Grand Mosque, a majestic white sandstone building. It was built on the instruction of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and can hold up to 20,000 worshippers. Your guided tour then continues with a trip to the city's market, the Muttrah Souk. Wares here range from exotic spices and silver trinkets to traditional Omani clothing and handicrafts. Barter for a bargain or two before heading back to the Bait Al Zubair museum, which chronicles Oman's history. View amazing displays of Islamic weaponry, art and household artifacts before driving to the Al Alam Palace, the official residence of Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The palace sits between two picturesque 16th century Portuguese forts, Jalali and Mirani. Take photographs before enjoying the scenic journey back to the ship.
Special Notes:
The Grand Mosque is closed to the visitors on Fridays and every afternoon; afternoon departures of this tour will visit the Mosque from the outside only. Afternoon departures of this tour will not have a dress code as the visit inside the Mosque is not included.Please dress conservatively when visiting sacred sites. For the Grand Mosque, women must wear modest clothing, which covers the body and the head, including the hair. Arms and legs must be covered to wrists and ankles. One must also take a scarf to cover your head. Men must wear modest clothing befitting the sanctity of the Mosque. Women must avoid wearing white transparent blouses & men must avoid wearing white transparent shirts. Shorts are not allowed. Food, drinks and smoking are strictly prohibited. Slip on shoes are recommended as guests must remove the shoes before they enter the Mosque.
