Banana Farm & Community Exploration

Discover how to help a local community during this engaging half-day tour into the heart of rural Chiapas. After a drive through the countryside you'll arrive at a sprawling banana plantation. Here, you'll meet your plantation guide who will share his knowledge of the cooperative, the region's history, its people and traditions, as well as the banana growing and harvesting process as you walk along the field. The nearby banana packing plant is your next visit; here, you'll learn how the entire community works to pack the bananas that they have cultivated before being shipped to buyers throughout the country. Then, you'll travel to the nearby town that owns and operates the plantation and visit a local elementary school. A portion of the proceeds of this tour goes to the center to help improve the lives of the local residents. Then, you'll return to your ship.
