Don't miss this fantastic glimpse into the local culture of the town of Mihonoseki, located at the eastern tip of the Shimane peninsula. Somewhat off the beaten path, this historic harbor was an important trading port in feudal Japan and the sea continues to hold a spiritual hold on the town; in fact; the locals say that Mihonoseki connects the gods and the sea to the people. Upon arrival, you'll be escorted to Miho-kan, a traditional Ryokan style inn and meet the executive chef. After learning how to make your own sushi, you'll relax with your creations and a sampling of sake. Refreshed, you'll walk along the picturesque Aoishi-datami Street to the Miho Shrine. Built in the 16th century, the shrine is dedicated to Ebisu, the god of fishermen and Mihotsuhime, the goddess of abundant harvest. When you rejoin your coach, you'll stop for photos at Mihonoseki Lighthouse.
